tijuana

as soon as you cross the border you are in tijuana and the place is absolutely mental. we drive down the main street which is just lights and noise and then we find usselves a hotel and check in. after we've freshened up, we head out in the car to another of marty's mates, don pueblos. he lives quite a way out of town and once you get a bit further out it's a very nice place.

we arrive at don's and he introduces us to his entire family - there's loads of them. don's watching champions league football when he arrives and his brother is out back barbequeing and people just keep coming in with trays of meat and tortillas, sauces and drinks, they can't do enough for us. it was absolutely incredible. after we've eaten a ton of meat it's time to head into town and check out the delights.

marty and don drive us back to our hotel and we park marty's car and then don drives us around town, giving us a full on low-down about all the different places. this was really nice of him, but then he drives us back round to the hotel and then back around town again. this would of been fine except ben's guts have gone and he needs to visit the toilet well urgently. don keeps driving us around and around and eventually ben shouts 'stop, please, for the love of christ, stop the car, i need a poo!'

we pile into the first bar we see and ben rushes to the toilet but it's busy and he has to wait. meanwhile we get beers (our waiter is another of don's brothers) and have a look around. stood around the bar...sorry people, but what happened in tijuana stays in tijuana.

we wake up the next morning feeling thoroughly ashamed of usselves, and we get in the car and drive off to rosarita

rosarita

i'm feeling pretty rough after the previous night so i spend most of the day asleep. when i get up we hang around outside for a bit because it's absolutely fantastic. when it gets a bit later we stand on the cliff watching dolphins mucking about in the ocean. it really is a contrast after the lights and noise of tijuana, it's so peaceful. we head into the bar and have a margherita with the bar bloke who marty knows and marty and ben are playing dominoes with the dominoes that marty had bought while we were kipping

puerto viejo

me, ben and marty drive south to puerto viejo which is the lobster capital of the world (according to the inhabitants at least) and we stop at one of the many restaurants and have...oh what were it now...what did we eat...oh yes: it were lobster. we totally gorged usselves on the stuff, every time us plates were empty we'd order anouther three lobsters. if we'd done this in america we'd of spent eight hundred dollars, easy.

rosarita

afterwards we drive back, have another drink and go to bed.

before we go back to the usa we drive to a little fishing village for some fish tacos. we go past the fox studios where they filmed titanic and then go to this little fishing village. there's loads of places and we find somewhere nice and get fish tacos. man they are absolutely amazing. mmm mm, fish tacos. as we're driving back up to san diego, marty's falling asleep at the wheel and we're all absolutely bricking it in the back of the car, but we make it back over the border reasonably safely.
